Grafton’s 72 Takes 3rd at Kewanee Dunes Classic

Sophomore Brady Grafton (Orion, Ill./Orion) shot an even-par 72 to tie for third and lead the Carl Sandburg College men’s golf team at the Kewanee Dunes Classic on Friday. Grafton also finished fourth with a 36-hole total of 147 as Friday’s scores were combined with Thursday’s results from the Charger Classic.
Grafton opened his round Friday with a 1-under 35 on the front nine on his way to posting the best score by a Sandburg golfer this season.
Sandburg took third in Friday’s event with a season-low 310 to edge Highland by one stroke. The Chargers also beat out the Cougars 622-623 in the two-day event that featured 11 teams. Black Hawk swept the top two spots Friday, with its Gold team totaling a 295 and its Black team posting a 306.
Sophomore Brayden Reece (Monmouth, Ill./Monmouth-Roseville), a day after carding a season-best 73, shot a 3-over 75 on Friday. Bryce Grafton (Orion, Ill./Orion) also shot in the 70s as he finished with a 79. Grant Campbell (Earlville, Ill./Earlville) rounded out Sandburg’s score with an 84. Matt Graves (Oneida, Ill./ROWVA) added a 98 for the Chargers.
Sandburg’s next action is 1:30 p.m. Friday for the Duane Chanay Invite at Byron Hills.
